Food House - Help Raise 2 TONS of Food to Feed York County

 |
The York County Builders Association is challenging
everyone to help raise 2 TONS of food for the York County Food Bank.
At last year’s Home Show, with the help of show attendees,
the York County Builders Association was able to collect 3,270 pounds
of food. We know with your help we can collect 2 TONS! Before you
head out to this year’s Home Show, reach into your pantry
or stop by the grocery store for non-perishable food items. One
item will get you $1* off admission to the Home Show BUT a grocery
bag full will fill many hungry bellies and put smiles on many faces.
Students from the York County School of Technology have constructed
the frame of the Food House. Your food donations will create the
walls and roof. Our goal is to fill the house and help take a bite
out of hunger in York County.
The York County Food Bank has been in operation for over 25 years.
It works with 175 member agencies to distribute food to places such
as soup kitchens and pantries, senior centers, youth programs, various
shelters, and hungry families. They distribute approximately 2.7
million pounds of food and household items each year. All of the
food distributed by the York County Food Bank is exclusively for
residents of York County. Fred Fisher, Director of the Food Bank
says, “This time of year is great for a food drive. After
the hype of the holiday season dies down, food donations are not
coming in as readily.” He continues, “We are expecting
an increase in case loads due to the slowing economy and increase
in heating and gas fuel.”
The York County Food Bank also accepts monetary donations. Through
their large buying power, for every $1 you donate they can purchase
$10 worth of food. Donations can be mailed to the York County Food
Bank at 254 West Princess Street, York, PA 17404. For more information,
they can be reached at 846-6435.
